Roles and Responsibilities:
CSS is seeking an innovative, creative, and dynamic Spanish teacher to teach in Early Childhood, Lower School, and/or Middle School. The division placement will be determined based on experience, expertise, and preference. This role requires an individual who is a fluent Spanish speaker with a knack for developing the written and conversational aptitude of students. A successful candidate will have a genuine passion for Spanish culture, arts, history, and literature in addition to experience living in a Spanish speaking country for an extended period of time. This position reports directly to the Director of the division in which they are teaching.
The position’s preferred qualifications:
A native Spanish speaker with a graduate degree is preferred
A demonstrated fluency in the Spanish language is required
Independent school experience
Possess a track record of successfully teaching students at the Early Childhood, Lower School, and/or Middle School level
Firm understanding of academic, social, and emotional development
Passion for the outdoors and experiential learning
Innovative mindset with strong skills in communication, collaboration, project-based learning, and technology
The Spanish Teacher will:
Teach Spanish from an introductory to advanced level using best practices in language acquisition
Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required
Serve as an advisor for a group of 8-10 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas and serving as the school’s key liaison to parents for this group of students (if assigned to Middle School)
Be able to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Complete grades/comments, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner.
Promote the development of character, community, and curiosity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules
Use variety, creativity, and flexibility to motivate and inspire young learners
Facilitate the development of a positive class culture that supports learning and personal growth
Appreciate and support varying learning abilities through robust lesson planning and rigorous assessment
Provide regular and useful student feedback and maintain assessment records
Communicate with students and families on a regular basis
Know the developmental and academic abilities of one’s students and communicate with students and families regularly
Pursue opportunities for professional growth on an annual basis.
Support a differentiated and globally integrated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning
Be involved in the school community at large and participate in and contribute to a Community of Belonging in formal or informal ways
Adhere to the standards described in the Employee Handbook
