K-5 Academic Interventionist

Roles and Responsibilities:

CSS is seeking an innovative and creative educator with a broad skill set in reading and math intervention. A successful candidate may specialize in either grade levels (K-2 or 3-5) or subject areas (reading or math) depending on their areas of expertise. This position reports directly to the Lower and Middle School Director and/or Assistant Division Director and will have a variety of responsibilities related to delivering the school program.

The position’s preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, Reading, or a related field

  • Teaching certification (Elementary Education)

  • Previous experience as an academic interventionist, special education teacher, or in a similar role supporting student math or reading development

  • For Math Position:
    • Strong understanding of mathematical practices, including problem-solving, reasoning, and communicating mathematical ideas

    • Experience with both just-in-time and foundational skills interventions and adapting instruction based on immediate student needs

    • Knowledge of how children develop mathematical reasoning and the ability to scaffold concepts to meet students where they are

    • Familiarity with growth mindset strategies and the ability to instill a positive attitude toward learning math in young children

  • For both positions:
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

    • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators, parents, and administrators

    • Experience teaching students from K-5 grades in both a push-in and pull-out model

    • Innovative mindset with strong skills in communication, collaboration, project-based learning, and technology

    • Knowledge of learning disabilities, psycho-educational tests, reports, and assistive technology

    • Experience administering and interpreting assessments and test results, academic achievement, and diagnostic testing

    • Proven success as a leader in program development

    • Full understanding of differentiated instructional strategies across the curriculum

    • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills

    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

The Academic Interventionist will:

  • Work with students in a variety of grade levels/divisions in math and/or reading based on current students' needs

  • Participate in classroom instruction as needed

  • Direct one-on-one or small-group instruction

  • Partner proactively with faculty and administration to support students with different learning styles and teachers in their efforts to advance students with different learning needs

  • Collaborate with Learning Support Team members to develop and lead professional development courses for faculty about learning differences, needs, differentiation, and accommodations.

  • Observe and evaluate individual students displaying academic difficulties and assess their learning strengths and challenges

  • Provide regular written student progress reports to the school and parents with assessment results and recommendations for diagnostic testing and remedial programs for learning-related issues

  • Maintain confidential student records and keep accurate documentation of sessions, meetings, and assessments

  • Initiate and schedule parent conferences as needed

  • Coordinate and facilitate communication between the student, family, school, and other involved professionals (such as Cheyenne Mountain SD 12)

  • Pursue professional development opportunities and/or attend conferences and professional meetings to remain current with industry trends

  • Participate in committee, department, and staff meetings as well as school-sponsored events that would benefit from your area of expertise

  • Be involved in the school community at large and participate in and contribute to a Community of Belonging in formal or informal ways

  • Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Director of Lower and Middle School

SALARY RANGE: $39,000 - $52,000 annually based on skills and experience. Please submit a cover letter, resume, and references to hr@css.org.
