Roles and Responsibilities:
CSS is seeking an innovative and creative educator with a broad skill set in science. A successful candidate will be required to work across divisions, developing the fundamentals of science for grade PreK - 8th grade. In doing so, the strongest candidate will be able to assess the current program needs in order to advance STEM and a love of hands-on education. This position reports directly to the Lower and Middle School Director and/or Assistant Division Director and will have a variety of responsibilities related to delivering the school program.
The position’s preferred qualifications:
Knowledge of science curriculum instruction trends of 21st-century learners
Bachelor's or advanced degree (Preferred) in fields of science, math, engineering, or computer science
Experience teaching students from Kindergarten through eighth grades
Innovative mindset with strong skills in communication, collaboration, project-based learning, and technology
The K-8 STEM Teacher will:
Design and support a differentiated and globally integrated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning
Take a student-centered approach by providing responsive instruction, including differentiation and flexibility to adjust plans when needed
Use activities and a variety of assessment types to assess student learning and monitor growth
Stay updated on current science instruction methods and research
Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement
Potentially serve as an advisor for a group of 8-10 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas and serving as the school’s key liaison to parents for this group of students
Serve as an instructor in our signature experiential learning opportunities both on campus and in the field throughout the year, which sometimes require travel
Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required
Be able to collaborate effectively and facilitate the development of a positive class culture that supports learning and personal growth
Complete grades/comments, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner
Appreciate and support varying learning abilities through robust lesson planning and rigorous assessment
Provide regular and valuable student feedback and maintain assessment records
Promote the development of character, community, and curiosity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules
Know the developmental and academic abilities of one’s students and communicate with students and families regularly
Be involved in the school community at large and participate in and contribute to a Community of Belonging in formal or informal ways
Adhere to the standards described in the Employee Handbook
Perform various student supervisory duties
