Roles and Responsibilities:
CSS is seeking an innovative and creative educator with a broad skill set in the musical arts to serve as a long-term substitute teacher. A successful candidate will be required to work across divisions, developing the fundamentals of the musical arts while teaching K-12th grades and leading the Middle School Choir and Upper School Vocal Ensemble.
The position’s preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in elementary education or a closely related field. A graduate degree and a track record of successful teaching at the elementary school level
Firm understanding of academic, social, and emotional development
Innovative mindset with strong skills in communication, collaboration, project-based learning, and technology
Ability to create a vibrant and positive learning environment
Experience working with all grade levels.
A team player who is flexible and willing to work with various colleagues across multiple divisions
The Music Teacher will:
Teach general music classes for kindergarten through fifth grade, 4th and 5th-grade choir, 6th grade choir, 7th and 8th grade choir, and Upper School vocal ensemble.
Support a differentiated and globally integrated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning.
Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required
Be able to collaborate effectively and facilitate the development of a positive class culture that supports learning and personal growth
Complete grades/comments and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner
Appreciate and support varying learning abilities through robust lesson planning and rigorous assessment
Provide regular and valuable student feedback and maintain assessment records
Promote the development of character, community, and curiosity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules
Know the developmental and academic abilities of one’s students and communicate with students and families regularly
Be involved in the school community at large and participate in and contribute to a Community of Belonging in formal or informal ways
Adhere to the standards described in the Employee Handbook
Perform various student supervisory duties

The position begins on August 10, 2025, and ends in mid-November.
