Upper School Math Teacher

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Colorado Springs School seeks an experienced, dynamic, and versatile math educator who can lead classes, including Algebra I/II through Calculus III and Ordinary Differential Equations. This individual would be an integral member of the math department. A successful candidate will be able to delve deeply into the applied elements of math and has a knack for engaging students through inquiry and project-based learning, making learning relevant to the world students will inherit. This teacher will also participate in Experiential Centered Seminars, which require extended periods with students, ranging from a single overnight to several days.

The position’s preferred qualifications:

  • Degree in mathematics or a related field

  • Experience teaching advanced courses

  • Experience teaching courses from 9th through 12th grades

  • Independent school experience

  • Demonstrated successful history with innovation in the teaching of math, technology integration, curriculum design, and experiential-based learning

  • Experience in teaching English Language Learners (ELL), particularly international students

The Upper School Math Teacher will:

  • Teach five sections of upper school math, which could include classes ranging from Algebra to Calculus III to Ordinary Differential Equations

  • Serve as an advisor for a group of 8-10 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas and serving as the school’s key liaison to parents

  • Support a differentiated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning

  • Support the experiential education in the Upper School by leading an Experienced Centered Seminar, which may include overnights with students

  • Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required

  • Complete grades/comments, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner

  • Appreciate and support varying learning abilities through robust lesson planning and rigorous assessment

  • Promote the development of character, community, and curiosity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules

  • Pursue opportunities for professional growth on an annual basis

  • Other duties as assigned
