This Wednesday we went to Pure Bouldering Gym to rock climb and see how COVID has affected small businesses. Then we went back to school and did an experiment before discussing ethics. Today was probably my favorite day of ECS. I thought it was a lot of fun to exercise and was deeply interested in Dr. Gillion’s ethics questions. All the time we spent in the lab finished with this final assignment. The lab we did was also very fun and we spent many days on it, so it was gratifying to finally finish it. This lab was centered around bacteria and how health officials decide what antibiotics to use when combating a resistant disease. The most challenging part of the day was probably the lab, as it was very mentally draining. Some takeaways I had for today was that it is very hard to run a small business in the midst of a pandemic. I also learned how difficult it is to study bacteria, and the amount of time it takes to see the results. Our experiment had already been going for several days before we got our final results. I also took away that there are not easy answers to seemingly simple questions.
