Big Blue Blocks Bring Open-Ended Play to Campus

November 14, 2016

Big Blue Blocks Bring Open-Ended Play to Campus Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Colorado Springs School is excited to welcome a new addition to campus. With a PreK-12th grade curriculum that emphasizes rigorous academics, relationship-building, and relevant technology and arts education, educators turned to the humble school playground as the next wellspring of growth and learning. The decision was made to invest in a set of Imagination Playground’s Big Blue Blocks.

Big Blue Blocks are made of durable, weatherproof foam and come in a variety of larger-than-life shapes. The single color promotes cohesive construction rather than competition. The large size allows children to engage in big-scale creation in groups. While traditional playgroup equipment has fixed purposes and develops motor skills, Big Blue Blocks are only limited by imagination and promote creative thinking, problem solving, and cooperation.

“Regularly we welcome prospective parents to the Admission Office who are concerned and frustrated with local school’s whose student schedule’s are heavily dictated by state mandated testing,” said Director of Admission, Faith Madsen. “The Big Blue Blocks engage students in joyful learning. They represent the best in education and promote problem solving, creative-thinking and an opportunity to build social and emotional communication skills. The blocks are brilliant in their simplicity.”

The Colorado Springs School is grateful to be one of only a few organizations in the region to have invested in Big Blue Blocks. The purchase of Big Blue Blocks is yet another example of The Colorado Springs School saying “yes” to students and investing in our mission to prepare students for a dynamic world.

The Colorado Springs School invites parents, friends, and neighbors to a Big Blue Block Party on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. as students in PreKindergarten – 5th grade come out to experience the Blocks as a community of learners.

Media is welcome to attend the event. Please coordinate any media visits to campus with Jessica L. James, Director of Communications and Advancement at (719)210-3499.
