Gathered in the Silver Room of the Mining Exchange, Head of School, Mr. Aaron Schubach welcomed and thanked leadership donors for participating in the launch of the 2015-2016 Annual Fund. Student musicians performed and student artwork adorned the walls as a point of celebration and connection illustrating how Annual Fund dollars allow us to “say yes to students” and provide enriching educational experiences throughout the year.
Those contributing $1500 or more to the Annual Fund were honored with an invitation to the Claremont Society reception. The evening was graciously hosted by Lorn and Perry Sanders, the owners of Springs Orleans and The Mining Exchange. Guests dined on a buffet of New Orleans inspired small bites and desserts. A buzz of enthusiasm filled the room as the initial Claremont Challenge had been exceeded with 49 donors contributing leadership gifts. With $150,000 in gifts and pledges secured, the Annual Fund is well on its way to reaching the $275,000 goal. Lorie and Clint Malone were recognized for funding the $10,000 challenge grant and inspiring others to give. Mr. Schubach applauded the many ways the Malones volunteer and serve as champions for the school. With children in all three divisions, Lorie and Clint are deeply committed to the school and see the school’s value from many different vantage points.
Additionally, Chair of the Board, Jennifer Bain, allowed the guests to reflect on the school’s history as she announced the creation of the Lifetime Giving Society. She helped us visualize a school before the purchase of the Trianon and Boddington Fields, before we had a dining hall, Children’s School classrooms, and before a dedicated Upper School building, before we had a professional theatre, and before our athletes played in a state-of-the art field house. As a school, our students drink from the wells that others have dug. The new Lifetime Giving Society is a formal recognition of donors who contributed cumulatively more than $50,000 in gifts to the school. With fifty-plus years of donations to recognize, we are still building out our records to create this comprehensive list, but our intention is to consider the many generations of giving and visioning that goes into building a fine school.
The next phase of the Annual Fund will be to increase parent participation and continue to invite further Claremont gifts. We will formally appeal to grandparents, alumni, and past parents as the tax-year comes to a close.
