Upper School Production of "Frankenstein" Captivates Audience

Congratulations to the Upper School cast and crew of Frankenstein for delivering three wonderful performances November 15-17, 2024, in the Louisa Performing Arts Center! This modern adaptation by Nick Dear premiered at London's National Theatre in 2011 and brings a fresh perspective to Mary Shelley's timeless 1818 novel about humanity, creation, and responsibility. It challenges audiences to consider profound questions about morality, scientific ethics, human nature, and the consequences of unchecked ambition.

Told through the eyes of its tormented creation, the story follows a being thrust into existence by Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but arrogant scientist who dares to breach the boundaries between life and death. Upon succeeding in his dark endeavor, Frankenstein recoils from his own achievement – abandoning his creation, who emerges into consciousness with a child's mind trapped in a monstrous form. As the creature navigates a world that meets his every attempt at connection with revulsion and violence, we witness the tragic consequences of his maker's hubris and humanity's reflexive hatred of the unknown
