After three years of service and dedication to The Colorado Springs School (CSS), CSS’s 10th Head of School Tambi L. Tyler this May announced to members of the school community that she would be taking a break to spend time with her family and ultimately would be pursuing other opportunities in the fall.
Under Tyler’s leadership, CSS increased enrollment, celebrated its milestone 60th anniversary year, and navigated through what has been referred to as the most challenging time in American education, the COVID-19 pandemic.
On May 31, 2023, CSS Board of Trustees President Heather Kelly introduced Mike Edmonds, Ph.D., as interim head of school for the 2023-2024 academic year. “We are fortunate to have Dr. Edmonds join our community after his remarkable 30+-year career at Colorado College, where he served as CC’s senior vice president and chief of staff, acting co-president and as the dean of students/vice president for student life,” Kelly said.
Edmonds, who announced his retirement from CC earlier this year, was conferred an honorary degree for his contributions to the CC community at Colorado College’s 2023 graduation last month. A prior member of The Colorado Springs School’s Board of Trustees, Edmonds shared the following video with the school community detailing his personal journey, educational philosophy, and deep commitment to CSS.
Working alongside Edmonds as interim associate head of school during this important leadership transition for CSS will be Ellen Crow. Crow has served as a Lower School teacher at CSS for the past six years, and holds a combined 23 years of teaching experience. She is an alumni parent to twin daughters who graduated from CSS in 2020, and has lent her expertise as an instructional team lead, Landsharks running coach, and ex officio member of the school’s Board of Trustees.
“Together, with the expertise of Dr. Edmonds and Mrs. Crow, and with your support, we are incredibly excited about the future that lies ahead for CSS,” said Kelly.
